Greetings denziens of Tsunami.
The non-shaolin monastic order has been hard at work with their sticks.
Their have learned additional staff-techniques that fuse their walking
stick and their unarmed style to create a new style of stick-based-combat
-- however, they have vowed to never use this style during war.
Okay. Weve all seen it. Monks are in a very good place. In fact, I have
personally abused their power to win a handful of wars including one by
standing in a room with "repeat kiai" on (this is true) taking out two
equal level layers. Monks are still in a very good state (see below) in
fact may be even better on the MUD but there have been slight war related
reductions. Some of which arose from bugs.
THE BAD (Reductions)
1) Monks are supposed to gain a higher attack-cap as they level. However a
bug in the formula meant they always got their maximum (19+6) number.
Which may explain why you sometimes see low-level fox-style Nekojins doing
6 attacks in a round. I fixed the bug and so now their attack cap scales
as intended (this will have an impact for low-level inspired monks,
obviously, because theyll hit their natural attack cap).
2) Monks had a very heft bonus to weapon damage baked into their shadow.
They also got more weapon damage from kiai. More weapon damage from dragon
style. This contributed to them casually doing 100-200 point combat
rounds. I reduced the shadow bonus to "normal" but from limited testing
they still hit freaking hard underkiai.
THE WHO CARES
1) I increased focus *very* slightly and made it instant to fuse with
their lightning-strike playstyle. There was a suggestion or two that were
years old about letting monks be able to cleanse themselves. So focus will
now try to remove blindness, disease, and poison in addition to healing.
2) I made this change a couple of weeks ago but meditation now updates you
as it rises and falls outside of HP report. Which takes the guess work of
when youre ready to murder. This was based on a suggestion.
3) Monk stick should no longer load during wars. No one was using it
anyway in a war. This was done because ...
THE GOOD
1) Monk stick had a hard-cap of 17 WC. I think the thought was that
special abilities would make up for it but Nekojin monks have a WC of
about 30 so it didnt. Monk stick WC now scales based on a combination of
being a weapon + staff skill + unarmed skill. At high levels if my math is
right it will have less WC than unarmed but only by a few points. So it
should now be much more viable.
2) I gave pretty healthy boosts to the elemental special attacks based
upon number of areas explored. At max level itll proc about like an
unmodded blast but youll need to have explored most of the MUD. I think
(with 1) this makes it viable and hopefully a worthwhile reward for
exploring.
