Tsunami Newsletter / Issue #3 / Halloween!
October brings the return of many fun events on Tsunami:
- Jack, the Pumpkin King is on a rampage and offering great rewards for those capable of killing him. Watch out!
- The Spectral Postman has arrived as a rare spawn, and offers a powerful mailbag and a horse players can ride.
- On October 31st, Tsunami will celebrate Halloween with Trick-or-Treating. Players will receive a checklist upon logging in and will be able to visit any player owned shop/pub or house and perform a 'trickortreat'. Players will receive treats for doing this, some really special treats for visiting most of the properties, and an extra-special treat for visiting all of them! Many of these treats will be auto-loading with the character and save for many weeks after Halloween, so be sure to visit on this day to get your bonus items for November!
Smurfs 50th Anniversary
On October 23rd we celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Smurfs. Tsunami, having problems with Smurfs itself, will find itself under smurf invasions all day. Mark your calendar and come stomp some blue annoyances!
Class Changes
Tsunami's subclasses are many and diverse and we are always working to make them more interesting to play. Here are some of the changes since the last newsletter:
- Bards have been rewritten in many ways to include new songs and now refrains.
- Wu-Jens: pneumatos no longer reduces armor class and the transform spell reduces armor class by less than previously.
- Amazons and Barbarians have learned how to pillage the lands to empower themselves.
- Mindflayers have been boosted by more powerful mindblast and gained the spells dominate and devour.
- Manticores now do more damage with the sphinx prayer and shockwave skill.
- Necromancers and Deathknights are now able to summon darkness.
- Will o' Wisp spell point damage now returns to their victim slowly if they are able to leave combat.
- Spiders now do more damage with their toxin.
- Warlords can enlist higher level armies.
- Medusa now hit more often.
- Amazons now find it easier to perform a warcry.
- Dracolich gravemist now performs more damage.
- Ooze osmosis was increased.
- Chaosmage ZAP does more damage and chaosmages have received the new spell dislocate.
- Enchant armor class bonuses have been reduced a bit to be more in line with ego.
- Demons have regained the ability to possess other beings!
- Gnomes have been recognized for the fantastic singers they are and now enjoy a +5 to singing instead of -5 (race change).
- NPC Mindflayers, Demons, and Ninjas now have smarter AI - watch out!
War Changes
Wars, a staple of Tsunami are always being constantly worked on. Some recent changes include:
- Many war items have had their cost reduced.
- TWars no longer award unfiltered experience at hero.
- TWars no longer have any wait between matches. If enough players want to start one, war on!
- Twars use a percentile based ranking system which ranks characters on a combination of total points earned in all wars played (so playing lots of TWars) and how well the character does in wars on average.
- TWars now use a complex algorithm to balance teams including war score, character age, levels, etc. Hopefully this will continue to result in better balanced teams - especially for our new players.
New Players
We had a big effort in August and September to push Tsunami to the top of the main MUD voting sites and it resulted in many new players. As our veteran players know, however, Tsunami is a complex MUD and often hard to digest for new players. We've made some changes to some things in an attempt to make it easier for newbies.
- We have added in some default aliases, colors, and environment settings.
- Additionally, we are leading an effort to create newbie training zones related to each guild. To date, we have in the game the Cleric, Dragon, Fighter and Horror guild newbie areas. They offer small introductory quests, fun bonus items, and help to introduce new players to Tsunami.
Upcoming
- Punk has been working on a fun specialized invasion coming in November related to celebrating autumn. Be sure to visit often and check that out.
- December brings with it Christmas festivites to Tsunami including Santa Claus, presents, and other fun events.
- Shaolin monks (prestige class) are still in testing but look very promising. We expect them to come out of beta testing relatively soon.
- The Babau prestige class is ALMOST done. The complex Unforsaken prayer is working and is being tuned now.
In Conclusion . . .
We put a lot of effort into Tsunami to bring our imagination to life and truly hope our players find it a great avenue for their adventures. We welcome suggestions, ideas, and work hard to fix bugs.
